Learning design, pedagogy, and e-learning

Through years of action research and professional inquiries, extensive professional learning, and ongoing engagement with current research in education, I have developed a strong background in learning and development. This commitment to learning allows me to create inclusive, innovative, collaborative, and future-focused learning, often in collaboration with experts outside my own domains. My master's research around MOOCs (massive open online courses) has contributed to a sound understanding of best practices in learning management spaces and the development of online courses for learning. Recently, I have also been working hard on developing my practice around culturally sustaining pedagogies. This includes increasing my use of te reo Māori, seeking ways to include the use of Tikanga in meaningful ways, as well as strengthening my knowledge of mātauranga Māori.

Leading assessment practice

As the current Principal’s Nominee at Hobsonville Point Secondary School, I have a strong understanding of NZQA systems. This role has also involved working with the school to ensure that our systems are flexible enough to allow personalised learning pathways and innovative assessment while maintaining quality and rigour in our assessment practices. In addition, I have worked with the school to embed more assessment for learning practices. I am particularly proud of the work that I have done to embed Universal Design for Learning, as I am a strong advocate for inclusivity and equity. Finally, this role also involves a significant amount of data management, requiring a strong knowledge of our student management databases and Excel. In this role, I have also overseen our school's response to large language models such as chatGPT in assessments.

Professional learning and development

Both within my Across School Lead role and with #edchatNZ I have led professional learning and development workshops, organised conferences, hosted webinars, and more. I have also further supported the development of these skills through postgraduate study. Facilitating professional learning also formed the basis of my master's project where I designed a MOOC to help communities explore education futures. I have also invested considerable effort into developing my professional coaching and mentor skills to effectively support and empower the individuals and teams I work with to meet their goals.
